Obey Obama Street Art

I spotted this rather interesting bit of street art plastered up in my moonbat neighborhood today. At first I thought it was a new wave of Obama propaganda targeting hipsters.

After I started photographing it, I noticed that the Obama logo had been co-opted with icon for the street artist Obey. Obey Obama? Priceless.

Heh!
I'll take your word for it that the inserted image is for a street artist called "Obey". Frankly I've often been told that I wouldn't make a good German because I rarely 'obey' anyone. I'm not likely to start now!
Good Catch!

Wow! That demonic, extracted Essence-of-Hussein on the lapel pin is chilling, even though the whole thing has an overall laughter-trigger effect!

Thanks for the hedzup, Infidel!

I think that picture was created by the same guy who make the Obey Andre-the-Giant image.

I saw a blog post a few weeks ago where someone made a parody replacing "progress" with "obey", which I think would be excellent at an Obama rally.

It is the same artist. I've seen his work around here for many years. It's kind of ugly. But this at least is interesting.

I wonder if he's voting for Obama. Is it ironic or not?

IIRC, Obey is the artist who designed the Obama artwork, which explains why his logo is on there.

There's a spraypainted stencil version of this poster on the sidewalk in my neighborhood (a relatively yuppie area, by SF standards).

From the "Obey web site": "Manufacturing quality dissent since 1989."

How appropriate! For all his unity yapping, Obama has indeed divided America.

UI, good catch on noticing that little "alteration" of the poster.

Hmm - so I wonder if Obama's heard any of the controversy surrounding Fairey?

I dunno about you, but if I were on the campaign trail, I'd probably do my best to shy away from artists that are accused of stealing the work of others...

;)

Brian

Okay, I get it.

The artist is for Obama. And I mean, really, really for Obama.

Why do I see the following when I look at this picture?

- Hitler-esque rallies in Soldier Field if he's elected...

- Mao-style portrait covering the White House portico...

- Statues in every town square as if he were Lenin...

Oh right, because just like them, it's a CULT OF PERSONALITY!!!

The fervor is no less crazy as that lauded upon Ahmadinejad, Kim Jong Il, Chavez, Mugabe, Assad, de Kirchner, Hu, Bin Laden, Castro, Than Shwe, Qaddafi, Ortega, and countless others around the globe.

It sickens me...

What ever happened to "God Bless America?"

UPDATE:
As of May 18, 2008 the wheat paste Obey Obama has been ripped down.

I happened to be going by and watched someone peel it, piece by piece, shred by shred off the wall of the building. It wasn't easy to do as these things really stick. He definitely looked like a moonbat, just not an Obama-loving moonbat I guess.

the poster is by shepard fairey...one of the greatest street artists (and now full blown commercial artists) of all time...he's sort of like a modern day Warhol. the poster you see was not modified by him, it was created by him. all of those "official" posters that look similar are either his creation, or rip-offs of his creation. do a google search for Shepard Fairey Obama Poster. It's actually a very interesting story.
