Cartoon of the Month
This political cartoon was found by fellow blogger, Babbazee on a Russian website, the name of which unfortunately is not known.
I sent to a friend, Yura who translated it:
Jatzek Mal'chevski (supposedly author, name sounds Polish or Belorussian)
LOVE A-LA RUSSE, or LOVE AS ONLY RUSSIANS CAN LOVE)
or, Mary washing these lovely white feet with nice heavy water.
This was another explanation I received:
It's a multi-layered thing, with numerous alliterations and associations (LOVE, THE RUSSIAN STYLE or, Marusja washed their white feet with heavy water) referring to-
1. Russian folklore song
2. Nuclear technology
3. Painting by Polish symbolist painter
4. Rather blasphemous reference to detail of Jesus' biography
Here is another interpretation I was sent:
The sign is Russian love or Marusya was washing white feet in the heavy water? There is a Russian song about a country girl Marusya who washed her white (meaning beautiful) feet in the spring water. The author, Yacek Malchevskiy, paraphrased this song, using instead of spring - heavy water, which can be used to create Tritium, radioactive isotope of hydrogen.

This is amazing and I think I have seen the original at the MET or in DC at the National.
It's quite erotic!
I WISH I HAD SEEN THE ORIGINAL!
I CAN'T FIND THE SITE I CLIPPED IT FROM, I WAS DOING THIS AT LIKE 3 AM ONE NIGHT, LOOKING FOR PUTIN IMAGES
I DIDN'T BOOKMARK IT....
STILL HAVING CONNECTIVITY ISSUES I AM SURPRISED I MADE IT ON TO POST THIS
THANKS AGAIN FOR THE TRANSLATION
JEWHAD NOW MAY SISTAH!
DECLARE THE BONGTWA!
This one is just too rich! Thanks for posting Urban and good find babbazee. Had to laugh at your description of finding it - and sorry to hear about your connectivity issues. GOOD luck on that one.
Jacek Malczewski is the name of the person who painted the scene that parody is based upon.
He was a Polish symbolist:

Don't know who the witty parodist is, but he's brilliant!
Simply brilliant! Thanks for posting, UI. And thanks to babbazee for finding, and her great comment above. I'm printing this one out for my office. LOL
I do not know why I enjoy it when people satire great works of art.
There is just something inherently comedic in changing art.
I could not stop laughing when in Blue Man Group the woman was sucked out of Wyeth's Christina's world with a vacum. I love the original but at the same time paintings were devised as entertainment in their day. We sometimes forget the entertainment factor when viewing the same paintings in Museums.
Check this out! A U.S. Marine at Camp Pendleton has just written and had published a counter-terrorism Novel about a retired CIA Case Officer who manipulates the Russian Mafia into killing Islamic terrorists inside Houston. It's titled; In The Death of Night by Matthew Reed. It's really slick how he sets it up and works it out with Russian Mob hitmen and Mercenaries being used to take out so many terrorists. It's an amazing read-you should check it out on amazon.com.
Ahmahdinejad thinks of himself as some kind of mahdi (Messiah for Muslims). Megalomaniacal Muslim!
It's an interesting cartoon, no matter how it's interpreted.
Burkean Reflections
I believe the works of Playgirl might better suit the two subjects in the painting...
