Thank Our Soldiers

I went to a charity fund raiser last night for AnySoldier.com which was started by Sargeant Brian Horn an Army Infantry Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade while stationed in Kirkuk. He distrubuted mail and packages marked 'Attn: Any Soldier' to soldiers who didn't get mail. It became so successful it now sends packages to any member of any of the Armed Forces in harm's way.

It was held at the historic Racquet and Tennis Club on Park Avenue in Manhattan. The main room was completely full and there were many great items auctioned to benefit our Armed Forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.

New Blog

I started a new blog, Garden of the Infidel. No, not to replace this one. Just a little art and photography on the side. Paintings and photos by me of a non-political nature posted regularly. I certainly still plan on covering demonstrations and other events as they arise.

The Villagers Are Angry

First of Three Videos of 'Mo Burnings' Released Today in Denmark.

A group in Denmark burned three effigies of Mohammed (instead of a witch) at the traditional midsummer festival in an unnamed location.
Since then the group that burned the effigies of the Prophet has contacted SIAD, who kindly uploaded a video of the event.

The next video will be released on July 23 and the final one on August 23.
Those Danes made quite a production of the bonfire β€” the soundtrack has β€œLight My Fire” on it…

Very witchy. Love the organ.

Full report and translation at: Gates of Vienna

After 57,000 viewings the video has been removed from YouTube. If you would like to see it, please go here.

Iraqi Kid Loves America and Bush

Funny and energetic kid. I wish him all the best.

SGT_USMC who put this up at LiveLeak has a lot more interesting videos of the US, Coalition and Iraqi Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. Great to see our wonderful soldiers and what goes on there day to day on the ground. The local children are always so touching.

Taking A Short Break. Well, Sort of...

I am taking a short break from blogging to work on other creative projects. Something that I am hoping will actually make a little money. Will be back soon with more exciting protest photos.

Please feel free to stop in anytime to say 'hello' or talk about anything.

For those of you who might be new here, please be sure to check out my previous photo essays listed on the right sidebar.

Oh, and I've been deemed 'fatwa-worthy' by this radical Islamist blogger living in Britain. Fun for everyone!

Cartoon of the Month

(please click to enlarge)
This political cartoon was found by fellow blogger, Babbazee on a Russian website, the name of which unfortunately is not known.

I sent to a friend, Yura who translated it:
Jatzek Mal'chevski (supposedly author, name sounds Polish or Belorussian)
LOVE A-LA RUSSE, or LOVE AS ONLY RUSSIANS CAN LOVE)
or, Mary washing these lovely white feet with nice heavy water.

This was another explanation I received:
It's a multi-layered thing, with numerous alliterations and associations (LOVE, THE RUSSIAN STYLE or, Marusja washed their white feet with heavy water) referring to-
1. Russian folklore song
2. Nuclear technology
3. Painting by Polish symbolist painter
4. Rather blasphemous reference to detail of Jesus' biography

Here is another interpretation I was sent:
The sign is Russian love or Marusya was washing white feet in the heavy water? There is a Russian song about a country girl Marusya who washed her white (meaning beautiful) feet in the spring water. The author, Yacek Malchevskiy, paraphrased this song, using instead of spring - heavy water, which can be used to create Tritium, radioactive isotope of hydrogen.
